YIT Mlynské Nivy Masterplan, Bratislava, Slovakia

2020
Invited Competition Winner
Client: YIT Slovakia
Team: Sadovsky&Architects + Marko&Placemakers

The revitalisation of one of the largest brownfield sites in Bratislava will transform this 6.5ha former industrial area into a modern and diverse city quarter with a mix of housing, services and quality public realm. Mitigation of climate change impact was a key consideration for the client and the competition jury selected and praised our proposal particularly for excellent public realm and environmental concept which seeks to restore local biodiversity and enhance people’s wellbeing.

The masterplan follows the line of the boulevard, creating a large courtyard park as a desirable semi-private green space which, in addition to its environmental function, will also fulfil an important social, recreational and sports function, bringing a number of benefits for the surrounding areas both locally and on city scale.

A mix of functions and good quality public space are the main prerequisites for a succesful place. The project could thus become another hub in the western part of the future boulevard Mlynské nivy.
