Pittsburgh, a city of many bridges is recognised as having one of the most spectacular night time settings in North America. The Three Rivers Park developed on the shorelines and the confluence of the three rivers: Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio is destined to become the city's premier public realm and a focus for extensive investment. The design team has developed a comprehensive and visionary approach to lighting linking the nighttime appearance of the city to its urban, economic, cultural and social context. Within this framework lighting is seen as a major regeneration and place making tool reinventing the cities identity and its relationships with the rivers, firmly establishing them in their rightful place as centers of community life.
