Our RECONNECT / RE-UNITE proposal explores the potential for new-ordering of the urban environment and social opportunities arising from the creation of car free environments. This project exemplifies how reintroduction and rediscovery of new methods of spatial connection can be seen as a catalyst for broader public realm renaissance.
Our proposal aims at creating dedicated cycle/pedestrian car free environment along and above the Thames River creating a functional linear park from Greenwich to Batersea supported by reengineered existing bridges. Information beacons, bicycle storage and distribution points are integrated into the detailed design.
